Traditions..

Well, I think traditions are very important. However black friday is something new to me. I was introduced to it, only a few years back and I was never eager to experience. I am personally not "big" on shopping and black friday just seems crazy to me and very hectic. People running in to the store and fighting over certain goods just seems way too crazy. I have never done it, not have a desire to go out on black friday. When it comes to holiday shopping, I casually walk into stores and if I see something that my friend or family member will like, I will get it for them. If not, I would order it online. Black Friday is a little to crazy for me, I am too calm of a person to participate in anything like that.

Advertising method.

It is very important to choose the correct advertising method for a certain product. One of the most popular methods is advertising on media. For example McDonalds, when they decided to make more healthier options and introduce the new salad on television, it gave them flexibility to advertise one salad to many different groups, which would promote their product more and attract customers of different social, ethnic and economic groups.  I think it was a very successful way to advertise the salad, many people watch TV, and many people go to McDonalds, it was an easy and successful way for them to introduce a new product. Also when I was on Youtube, I found many people making their own videos about the benefits of this chicken salad and how good and healthy it is for you. So McDonalds have succeeded to the point of where their costumers advertise their product.

succesful advertising..

One of the ways to of advertising that were successful that we have discussed in class is promotion. For example how Coca Cola  promoted the Coca Cola life, the launched their product in a small town and gave out their new drink. They also used it for an advertisement, so its like they used both strategies in order to promote their product. Coca Cola is very good with advertising their products they always use the friends and family theme and I feel like its a very strong tactic because everyone can relate.

Is advertising manipulation?

Is advertising manipulation?

Advertising is a very controversial topic. Some people may claim for it to be manipulative and others may think its not. However based on the topics we talked before how marketing strategies, how certain advertisements make wants turn into needs, I can make make a claim that advertising is manipulative. However I can not blame them for manipulating my choices, because that is their job.  It is my choice whether or not I find their advertisement or promotion attractive. It is absolutely up to me whether or not I want to give in and decide to convert my wants into my needs. We are so convinced that we need it, and now, with social media we are manipulated even more, because it is everywhere. It is similar to our phone, we DO NOT need our phone, but we feel absolutely helpless without it. We loose the responsibility and the trust in the abilities we have.

promotional mix.

What is promotional mix?
The makeup of the promotional mix varies with the product being promoted, the nature of the potential customers, the general market conditions, and the funds available.

10 different types of products or services. For each product, determine which type of promotional method(s) would be best for informing consumers about the product or service. Why did you select each method?

1. Beverages - direct marketing, new media, promotion.
2. Makeup- event marketing, direct marketing, advertising, media
3.Shoes/clothes - Advertisements, publicity, new media, and direct marketing.
4. Restaurants- media, public relations, and even marketing.
5. Electronics- media, promotions, direct marketing.
6. Salons (spa, hair)- media, public relations, promotions.
7. contraceptives- promotion, media, direct marketing.
8. cars.- all of the above.
9. new apps- media.
10. furniture- media, public relations.

New spin on an old product.

Well, this is a great opportunity to talk about the companies that failed in marketing techniques. For example some of my classmates talked about companies like blockbuster. Another company is Motorola, this company had a very good product, they were big with the Motorola razor phones. When they came out, many people had them or wanted to have them. It was like an iPhone in these few recent years. After that phone has lost its "touch", people began to move on to the new things, but Motorola "froze". They did not come up with a new phone that had a semi decent marketing for. I have seen this phone at stores, it is semi like Samsung. However, now a days the two companies that dominate the market for cellphones is Apple and Samsung. Motorola got far pushed back. It would be insanely hard to bring it back, unless they begin to come up a new product that no other company has, for example maybe like a futuristic phone, I thnk it would be something new and many people would buy it.

Custmer is everything..

The author of this quote is very correct. Costumers are very important in the business setting and it is very important to keep them and make them brand loyal. Because if customers keep coming and going, it means the product was weak and the company will begin to fall, maybe slowly, but it will begin to fall.  Marketers job is to figure out a way where everyone is happy, there is constant revenue and a very strong customer base.  If there is not customer, there wont be a product and soon there wont be a business. It is in the company interest to keep their clients, which means they have to figure out a way to make them happy as well as to make money. Also it maybe easy to get costumers. People will always come around and try the product, but its a lot harder to keep the costumer.. however if the company does succeed in keeping the costumer it shows the strength of their product and company.

Marketing changes our thoughts and opinions.

if I could change one thing about myself ....it would be gain more weight.

It is very interesting to see kids vs. adults to answer this one question;
If you would change anything about your body what it would be?
I think its because kids have not have experienced other peoples judgmental looks and opinions and they have not been influenced by the media and certain stereotypes and its is absolutely amazing. I think marketing has a huge part in how it makes us a little bit insecure. Whenever they market make up they always pick this flawless, beautiful girl, or clothes, they always put it on the slim tall model; and subconsciously we begin to think we wish we were them.. and I am beginning to wish they would put more heavy set women in the magazines. Every one is beautiful and we should all love ourselves as we are.

Celebrity in Marketing

Celebrities are definitely a powerful tool to use for many companies. With all this social media, YouTube, twitter, Instagram, even snapchat, people feel like they become closer to many celebrities,. Now celebrities are letting people become part of their life and we do not have to wait until some journalist writes bout them in the magazine. We feel more apart of them and their choices have a huge impact on them. For example many young men are interested in sports, and they are very dedicated to it, for example using basketball players with high reputation, in order to market Jordan sneakers is a very successful tool because young men want to be that person, they want to successful like the celebrity they look up to.

Self Monitoring test

So, I was asked to take a self monitoring test and the grade I received is 11. I am right between the 2 different options. So I guess I am right between these 2 personalities;

Based on the description of the 2 different scores, this is my perception of what I am like.. I can modify my behavior to certain situations but I can also be very stubborn. It really depends on how strongly I feel about my opinion and how eager I am to defend it. I have lots of principles that I do not cross over, which many people have found it very hard to deal with. So basically reading on the rest of the description I figure out how to sum it up. I can do anything in he world if I stop being lazy and put my mind to it. I think this type of exercise is defiantly useful for marketers because its a way for them to get to know their consumers and come up with more productive marketing strategies.

PRIZM

Wow!! <- was my first reaction. It is correct about my neighborhood, it is mostly Hispanic and very diverse income wise. However it did surprise me that most popular age in this neighborhood is 21-30. When I walk outside, it definitely doe snot look like that, however I am not sure how updated this version is. Jackson Heights is a very evolving neighborhood and a lot more families are beginning to move in. It is becoming a family, sleeping neighborhood. There is a huge difference between Jackson Heights and Tribeca area, in income, families and race. It is mostly while, and people make a loot of money there and mostly single people live there. In age it is about the same, however I am not sure how many 21 year old's make 150k, and if they are not.. then HOW CAN THEY AFFORD TO BE THERE??

Do marketers force us to buy products we dont need?

It is important for marketers to truly understand the customer because they need to pitch their product while considering our  wants and needs and expectations. Each person is different, and each person will look for different things. For marketers it is very important to keep their consumer interested and keep coming back for more, new products that will come in the future. It is very important to understand who they are targeting and what those people expect from the product, meanwhile keeping the main goal of the company. It is very difficult to do, however consumers is what makes the business thrive and brings profit.

Wants vs Needs;
What would have to occur to move each of these from “wants” to “needs”?

Wants:
1. car.- If i need to get around to lots of places in a very short period of time. Car always saves time.. unless its rush hour.
2. vacation abroad- lots of stress, to the point where I will need a vacation.. for example like now!
3. hair wand- nothing can make it my needs..
4. good grade.. that s already a NEED!!
5. I want to own a house
6. I want identical twins in the future
7. I want to be with someone reliable
8.
9.
10

It was very hard to come with that list, however I did best I could..because I honestly want one thing... for my family to be well, and happy, and I am not a very materialistic person, so its impossible for me to come up with a list like that.

Journal entrie #3

Hello my dear reader,
Welcome back to my blog, today I will answer some question that you may have..
1.  Can a company be successful without using a portfolio matrix as a strategic planning tool?
Well, lets start with the question what is the portfolio Matrix?
Portfolio Matrix is an analysis technique. It is a chart that was created by Bruce Henderson in 1970, in order to help corporations analyze the balance between cash flow.
So, this system is very important for businesses because it helps them analyze the cash input and the excess cash it generates. It mas out the place the business is in, and the marketers can come up with a strategy to increase the profit and bring the company to the place they wish to be.
2.  Which element of the marketing mix is the most compelling for customers?
The most compelling marketing mix for customers is price and product. Some people are price loyal, and other people are brand loyal. It really depends on the person who is targeted, and also it is important for people to feel connected and personal with the product, even to maybe have some trust or be intrigued to try it.
3.  Is it possible to achieve "sustainable competitive advantage" or is "sustainable competitive advantage" theoretical only? Name a company that has done so and outline how?
I think it is possible, it requires a lot of work. For example Apple; Apple is in a very good place. They are in such a good place they almost don't need to force people to buy their product, they can place the picture of their new phone, or the apple store in the store front of At&t and the day of the release there will be people making a huge line just to get the product that is just the same as they have but maybe camera improved. Having an Apple phone is having a status. They are a very strong company and they have nothing to fear, they have a product that they can be sure about. For a while in the movie theaters Microsoft used to advertise their new tablet, showing all the benefits and transformation of their tablet to the computer and showing how easy it is to use and carry around vs. the Macbook Pro. I believe they only helped Mac because people believe in them, and Mac does not put other products down in order to make themselves higher, and I feel like they have earned a lot of respect with that from their customers.
